Four fans have reportedly died and another 25 injured following an incident in Honduras at the Championship match between Motugua and Honduras Progreso. The game had sold out and it’s believed 1000s turned up without tickets and attempted to gain entry causing a stampede. Police used water cannons and tear gas to control the crowd.
News agency Associated Press are reporting local police claim too many tickets were sold. However, Motogua denied this and believe fake tickets were to blame. The game still went ahead with Motagua winning the game 3-0.
In a statement the club sent their condolences and reiterated their was nothing to celebrate.
RIP to those that have lost their lives.
