It has come as no surprise that Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has scooped the PFA fans player of the month award for December. It is the 2nd time he has been awarded the accolade this season. The first time being in November.
The Egyptian was in incredible form during the reds 7 Premier League fixtures, scoring 5 goals and adding a further 3 assists. His goals included both goals against Leicester in a 2-1 victory.

The former Chelsea man has proved to be a revelation since his £34m move from Roma last summer.

Overall he has netted 23 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions, 17 of which have been in the Premier League. He also has 8 assists to his name.

That impressive form equals the record for most goals scored by a Liverpool player before  the turn of the turn of the year.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp recognised the feat by telling the guardian:

“The record is remarkable and the goals themselves are remarkable as well,”

The 25 year old now looks a certainty to be in the running for the player of the year award later this season.

Barkley On The Verge Of Chelsea Move

Chelsea are on the verge of making Ross Barkley their first signing of the January transfer window

Sky Sports news are reporting a deal is nearly done with only a medical needed to complete the signing.

Sam Allardyce only confirmed yesterday that the England midfielder is back to full fitness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He did, however, admit that he has had no choice but to let the midfielder leave. Speaking ahead of the club’s Merseyside derby FA Cup 3rd round tie, Allardyce said:

“I think that we are resigned and the club was resigned before I got here that we’re going to lose Ross and I can’t see that changing,”

Chelsea fans may have mixed feelings on signing another midfielder. Tiemoue Bakayoko may have struggled since joining the blues from Monaco. However, youth product Ruben Loftus Cheek has shown great potential whilst on loan at Crystal Palace. His form has seen him recently earn an England call-up, much to the delight of blues fans.

Liverpool born Barkley appeared on the scene as a 19-year-old for his local club. He has gone on to make 179 appearances and also has 22 England caps  (source: Wikipedia)

Chelsea Profit Destroys Myth

Stamford Bridge expansion

Chelsea Football Club have today announced their annual financial results, and have officially made a profit of £15.3m.

A record turnover was made of £361.3m. That’s quite a hike from last year’s figures of £329.1m.

The Premier League champions made an operating loss, due to not playing Champions League football. It also must be added that this does not include the bumper deal they have with Nike which officially started on the 1st of July.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Blues chairman Bruce Buck was extremely pleased with the latest figures.

It is very pleasing we matched significant achievement on the pitch in 2016/17 with a successful year commercially. Our business has continued to grow long-term and to be able to post record turnover figures despite not playing Champions League football during that period highlights this strength.

Chelsea fans have been taunted by rival clubs fans since 2003 when billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club from Ken Bates. The Russian seemingly bankrolled the Champions, much to the disgust of football purists.

The West London club have often recorded a multi-million pound loss.

However in recent years the Blues have ‘balanced the books’ successfully following the introduction of financial fairplay.

Today’s announcement furthers the long term vision of being completely self sufficient. Something the club now look to have achieved.

Stamford Bridge expansion

Chelsea do of course have plans to rebuild Stamford Bridge. It is still not completely clear how the project will be funded.

Jorginho Wanted By Red Devils

Jose Mourinho is interested in Napoli holding midfielder Jorginho, reports suggest.

The 26 year old has made 18 starts for Gli Azzuri this season, contributing with 2 goals and 3 assists. In addition to that 4 Champions League appearances have seen him score 2 goals. One of those goals being against United’s rivals Manchester City.

The Manchester United boss is believed to see the Italian as a long term replacement for Michael Carrick and Mourouane Fellaini.

Brazilian born Jorginho started his career with Verona after moving to Europe as a teenager. He later made the move to Naples in 2014.

Having decided to represent Italy due to Italian grandparents, he has gone on to win 3 caps for the Azzurri.

Whether the Napoli man ends up at Old Trafford remains to be seen. One thing is for sure he won’t come cheap with Aurelio Di Laurentiis the Napoli president to negotiate with. Arsenal have also been linked, however that rumour has cooled somewhat.

10 Years Ago – A 10 Goal Thriller

There have been some truly absorbing games since the Premier League began. Whether it be a crucial six-pointer or a cagey, tight title clincher, we have all experienced highs, lows and extraordinary matches.

One such match that fits the bill took place 10 years ago today. Oh, how time flies.

White Hart Lane was the venue for Tottenham Vs Reading. A premier League encounter that gave us a result nobody could have predicted. I doubt anybody put money on it. If you did, please give me a call and share your incredible knowledge/luck.

The first half was relatively tame. Well, compared to the 2nd half goalfest that was to come anyway. Spurs took the lead after only 7 minutes through Dimitar Berbatov with a tap-in.

Within 10 minutes Kalifa Cisse had levelled for Reading, and that was it for the first half. A seemingly routine Premier League clash that looked as if it could go either way.

Only 8 minutes into the 2nd half, Ivar Ingimarsson headed the Royals ahead, only to see Berbatov fire home an equaliser after 63 minutes.

The floodgates were well and truly open. Reading recaptured the lead on 69 minutes with Dave Kitson heading home a Nicky Shorey corner. The lead was again short-lived as Berbatov completely his hat-trick 4 minutes later.

Surely we wouldn’t see too many more goals? Oh, yes we would. Straight from the restart, Kitson added his 2nd and Reading were back in the lead for the 3rd time.

Into the final quarter of an hour and Tottenham refused to lie down. Steed Malbranque was next on the scoresheet to make it 4-4.

79 minutes on the clock and the home side were awarded a penalty. Yet more drama was to ensue as Robbie Keane saw his penalty saved, only for Jermaine Defoe to head in the rebound……… 5-4!

How would this astonishing game end?

That man Berbatov completed his man of the match performance by adding his 4th and Spurs 6th to give us a final score of Tottenham Hotspur 6 Reading 4.

Not one for those of us that like to see good defending, and I’m sure both managers joined fans in tearing their hair out at times.

Steve Coppell: It was great entertainment and if you were impartial it would have been a magnificent game to watch.

Gus Poyet: It was a great game for Match Of The Day, but not a great game if you were one of the managers

One thing is for sure is it was a game that offered entertainment of the highest level. Two teams refusing to lie down and fight till the bitter end. There have been others and maybe, just maybe we might see something similar this coming weekend.

Attention! Chelsea Fans –  A New Rumour Mill Has Officially Started

We’re not even quite at the end of the calandar year, and barely half way through the season, but already rumours of how our heroes will look as they take to the field NEXT season are making there way onto social media.

And first up is Chelsea. I’m sure other clubs will follow suit in the new year.

Now, if it’s real, there’ll be a hint of red on the new shirt. Not something that tends to go down well with blues fans. However, I for one quite like the design. In truth though… It does look as if somebody has simply added a few red and white bits to the current shirt.

As for the away kit… I do like the idea of returning to a yellow shirt. It looks like quite a simple design, but it doesn’t need to be too fancy in my opinion.

Stay tuned for the next batch of… ‘Is This Chelsea’s New Shirt’ Coming soon I expect.

Hairy Moment For Didier Drogba

Well this a bit errmm.. . Different. Didier Drogba and his hair have officially parted company.

The Chelsea legend took to social media to show off his new look, and it’s fair to say the new bald slap head look that he is rocking is very different to the dreads that he often sported. He almost looks like a completely different person. I’m sure a social media meltdown is on the way.

It is unknown whether he has simply decided on the dramatic change of style or whether he felt he had no choice due to a reciding hairline.

The 39 year old now plies his trade in the USL with Phoenix Rising, who he also co-owns. He has recently announced he will retire at the end of the season after a career that saw him start off in the French lower leagues before making his name with Marseille. Most notably the Ivorian then spent 8 years at Stamford Bridge where he won 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups and of course the Champions League in 2012. After a short spell in China he then went on to win more silverware in Turkey with Galatasaray before a last hurrah at Chelsea where he clinched a 4th Premier League title and also added another League Cup. He then headed over the atlantic for a season in the MLS with Montreal Impact before heading over the border to Phoenix.
